Following a windscreen replacement, it is essential that ADAS camera calibration be undertaken in order to ensure that the vehicle safety systems continue to operate as intended. The majority of vehicles require calibration in workshop conditions, called static calibration, and National Windscreens provides this through its national network of 108 dedicated fitting & calibration workshops.

A smaller number of vehicles require dynamic calibration, requiring one of our technicians to plug a specialist device into the vehicle and then drive it until the vehicle confirms it has re-calibrated itself. In line with the current social distancing guidelines issued by the government, we have accelerated our planned, national implementation of a ‘solo technician’ dynamic calibration service. This service is provided with immediate effect and with full national coverage.

This ‘solo technician’ dynamic calibration service has been developed in conjunction with Hella Gutmann, the manufacturer and provider of our calibration equipment. Following the latest developments from Hella Gutmann, we will now be able to undertake dynamic calibration with one technician in the vehicle whilst avoiding the need for any physical interaction with the diagnostic device. Additional PPE has also been provided to all technicians. This new process ensures that National Windscreens operates according to the government’s coronavirus safety guidance whilst meeting legal requirements on not using hand-held devices when driving.

The safety of our staff and our customers remains our absolute priority.
